We are Italy's largest agricultural company, with more than 8000 ha cultivated in Italy itself, plus more than 5000 in Romania.
Our work takes place on 25 farms throughout Italy from Calabria to Piedmont, Lazio and Veneto and extends beyond the Italian borders to Romania.
Turnover of almost €50 million, over 360 employees and more than 160 years of history. These are just some of our statistics to start with, the rest we’ll discover together.

The Genagricola story

  1. 1831

Founded in Trieste on 26 December 1831, with the name "Imperial Regia Privilegiata Compagnia di Assicurazioni Generali Austro-Italiche"

  2. 1851/1880

Generali immediately invested in the agricultural sector, purchasing a vast marshy area near the municipality of Caorle and appointing engineer Francesconi to reclaim the lands of Ca' Corniani.

    1861

1861 The Kingdom of Italy was proclaimed.

  3. 1917

Ca Corniani found itself on the front line of battle between the Italians and Austrians and was flooded by the army.

Ca’ Corniani became a model company. The population grew from 650 to 1500 inhabitants. It was divided into 60 tenant farms and a school, post office and church were built, together with 60,000 m² of housing.

  4. 1926/1950

Land reclamation continued and the crops grown diversified. The company centre now had more than 3000 inhabitants and 80 tenant farms. Farm mechanisation began.

  5. 1974/1994

Genagricola began purchasing land in areas with a marked vocation for winemaking. The first were in the eastern Friuli Hills, followed by the Grave area of Friuli and so on until purchase of the TENUTA SANT'ANNA winery in 1994.

  6. 1995/2015

Genagricola continued to invest in farming, also exploiting the new opportunities offered by renewable energies. The Le Tenute di Genagricola winemaking group accounted for 30% of the holding company's total turnover: the brands, distribution and product quality grew, placing the winemaking group among the leaders on the Italian scene.

The Group's winemaking division, "Le Tenute di Genagricola", was founded.

Genagricola in figures

Giving a complete picture of us in figures is not an easy task, but here are at least a few curious examples!

900 ha planted with vines, the equivalent of 3500 km of vineyard!

Of the 30 grape varieties we grow on our estates, 20 are native

4000 tonnes of durum wheat produced: the equivalent of 6 million packs of pasta!

43,000 tonnes of sugar beet, enough to sweeten 1.5 billion coffees!

7000 heads of livestock reared each year

1200 dairy buffaloes

2 plants producing electricity from biogas

We generate enough energy to power 6000 families

Development

Our programmes for growth, our economic goals and the road we have embarked on to achieve them.

In our project so far we have not talked about Development, essential for any business activity. Although neglected in our communications, it is in fact in this field that Genagricola has spent most energy so far, launching several projects, some already completed, some still under way.

GROUP STRUCTURE: arrival of the new CEO led to an initial restructuring, with separation of the wine growing and commercial divisions from the farming division to emphasise the need for an approach based on a different logic.
